History (The Story So Far)The first ramble-rally in our Club's history took place in September 1963. Until 1991 the Club operated as the Ramble Section of Ferranti's Sports and Social Club in Bracknell, Berkshire. This was also open to members of ICL's Sports and Social Club, that company also having premises in Bracknell. In 1991 Ferranti International, as our company had by that time become, ceased trading. The Rambling Section however, continued to prosper and is now known as The Ramble Society. During the 1970s and 1980s as many as fifty teams would sometimes turn out for its events. These days, with members scattered far and wide, we are still able to muster twenty-five or thirty teams for our events, which tend to take place in Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Oxfordshire or Buckinghamshire. Visit the Hall of Fame for details of the winning teams in past rallies. The FutureThe Ramble Society depends on its membership to organise its events. As with many similar organisations, this undertaking tends to devolve upon the few. Organising a rally is the work, however absorbing, of many hours over several weeks. In making our perennial plea to those of our teams who have enjoyed competing over the years but have yet to take the plunge and try their hand at organising, we should also like to extend an invitation to rallying devotees elsewhere. We assume that there are similar clubs and like-minded individuals besides ourselves. How about reciprocal arrangements for future ramble rallies? Could you offer our Club one of your events? Would some of your teams care to compete in ours? Subject always to availability of team places - different organisers may impose their own upper limit on numbers - teams are invited to apply to join us and see what all the fuss is about. Current price of admission is £5 per team. Profits from our events go to a charity of the organisers' choosing. If you want to compete, or invite, or enquire, please email us. Next Event
