The Ramble Society's
Spring Saunter 26th April 1998
Result and Summary
Perhaps the dire April weather and dismal forecast of "more
where that came from" conspired to depress the entries to
sixteen for this, our first event of the year. Mercifully the
elements relented after heavy morning rain, no doubt confounding
those fair-weather teams whose defection reduced the field to
twelve (an all-time low?), as well as the rest of us. The dauntless
dozen were rewarded with breezy but bright conditions, whilst
underfoot the going was reported as sticky in places, but overall
not too bad.
Clue 1 was 'found' by two teams at point 9-10 and only one
team, SAS KLaSS, located it correctly at 21-22.
Two teams found another Clue 6 at point 7-8 so I have allowed
this.
Clues 31, 91 and 100 also had unsuspected duplicates elsewhere
on course - Organiser's nightmare, sorry.
Quiz question 9 was mistyped so the only fair solution was
to make it void: again, sorry!
The Silly Hat competition was won by Geographically Embarrassed
(one glance was all it took) and they consumed their prize in
the pub.
Congratulations to the worthy winners (their second victory,
I think) and thanks to all who took part in what I hope was an
enjoyable day out. I am grateful to Julie and staff at the "Traveller's
Friend" for hosting the event and sustaining us with drink
and meals.
Maybe we could run another rally in the area? |
